From the breeder:

As I learned more about the breed, I also became keenly aware they are somewhat of a “rare breed” (at least this is my opinion), and I knew I wanted to be a missionary for the Devon Rex breed. My goal is to breed, on a limited basis, to improve, strengthen, and show the cats I produce with the best and strongest Devon Rex traits.

What are Devon Rex Cats like?

Devon Rex cats are known for their large, far-apart ears and mischievous personalities. Weighing up to 9 pounds and up to 15 inches in length, they are one of the smaller cat breeds. Their short fur has a loose curl, giving a fuzzy texture to their coat. As their fur tends to be on the short and fine side, breeders recommend keeping your Devon Rex indoors to prevent sunburn. Registered Devon Rex breeders will have kittens for sale with white, lilac, chocolate, cinnamon and black fur in a variety of patterns; calico, tabby, pointed, shaded and tortoiseshell, among others.

Devon Rex cats love to entertain their pet parents and appreciate physical affection. They may perch on your shoulder while you work and will always be nearby to keep an eye on you. They are highly social cats, and benefit from multiple sources of attention. Having another cat or pet around for them to play with will help the Devon Rex acclimate to your home. They maintain kitten-like energy throughout their lives. You can teach them to play with toys and fetch to provide the Devon Rex with the stimulation they need.

How much do Devon Rex Cats cost in California?

As a sought-after breed, Devon Rex Cats for sale in California cost between $1,000 and $2,000. A cat’s price is based on its pedigree, coat quality, age, health and vaccination history. If an Devon Rex Cat’s parents are show-winning, they can be even more expensive.

Devon Rex cats have short, curly coats that do not shed much, but they do require regular grooming to prevent matting and maintain their distinctive coat texture. Asking some relevant questions about their philosophy will ensure you avoid Devon Rex Cat breeders that do this only for financial gain, not having the interests of the cats or you in mind. Make sure you ask about:

  • Health history of the parents and vaccinations. They should have their first vaccinations by the time they're adopted.
  • Whether they've bred their Devon Rex Cats with other breeds (they should disclose this and it would make it not a purebred lien.
  • Have the socialized the kitten among other kittens?
  • Do they belong to a California Devon Rex Cat breed club? You can ask for references from the club.

Why does it matter if I buy from a registered Devon Rex Cat breeder?

When you buy from a registered Devon Rex Cat breeder (with either their local Devon Rex Cat club, governing body, or TICA/CFA), that ensures that a standard of care and expertise is enforced. You can ask them about a wide range of topics such as the Devon Rex Cat’s genealogy, the right kitten for you, common health problems with Devon Rex Cats to look out for. We offer additional registration through our Cat Kingpin Certified program as well, although it's not a replacement for other registrations.

I have had two interests since I was very young… the Internet and cats. I grew up with two lovely cats in my family, Midnight and Chloe. But when I started looking for a cat as an adult, I realized how few reliable resources there are for finding ethical breeders. So I combined my Internet skills and cat knowledge to create Cat Kingpin, the #1 resource for cat breeders online. Have a question or suggestion for my list? You can reach me here.
